You might assume the OnePlus Watch runs Wear OS, Google’s smartwatch operating system, given that OnePlus bases its phones on the Android operating system. Instead, it is driven by OnePlus Watch OS, the company’s own operating system built on an open-source real-time operating system (RTOS). iPhones are incompatible with it, but Android devices are.

SetUp With OnePlus Health App

I used the OnePlus 9 and a set of OnePlus Bud’s to test the OnePlus Watch. You must first download the OnePlus Health app to get started. The software requests your gender (with only male and female options), birthdate, height, and weight when you first launch it. After that, simply turn on the watch, choose your favourite language, and a pairing code will appear on the screen. Open the OnePlus Health app, select “Add Device” by pressing the plus sign, wait for the app to recognize your watch, and then double-check that the pairing code displayed in the app matches the pairing code displayed on the watch screen.

The software requests permission to access your location “all the time” as part of the setup procedure so that it can record your workout routes. Additionally, it requests a number of permissions so that you may use the watch to make calls, get notifications, and reply to texts.

You have the option to connect your Google Fit account to the app to sync your steps, calories burned, heart rate, and sleep information. Finally, it asks which wrist you intend to wear the watch on, a normal question when configuring most wearables, to ensure correct step and workout tracking.

The watch wouldn’t allow me to choose English throughout the initial setup procedure and kept falling back to Hindi. I managed to set it to English after numerous tries, but after running an update, it went back to Hindi. Since I can’t understand Hindi, the main menu’s iconography helped me identify Settings (the gear symbol) using context clues. From there, it only took two guesses to locate the reset button. I was able to choose English as my language and never ran into this issue again when the watch was reset.

Finding Your Way Around

The interface of the watch is bright, clearly laid out, and simple to use with the touch screen and two physical buttons on the right side of the case. I only wore the watch for one day, yet I was already accustomed to using it.

Because they don’t always respond to touch inputs right away, many other wearables, even more, costly ones like the $329.95 Fitbit Sense, might occasionally feel a little sluggish. That was not an issue for me with the OnePlus Watch. It’s a good thing that in tests, its screen responsiveness matched that of the Apple Watch.

OnePlus Health App Features

There are two ways to alter the watch face: directly from the watch (hold down on the watch face to adjust it) or through the OnePlus Health app. OnePlus provides a variety of analogue and digital faces in various colours and designs. Although OnePlus claims a future update would allow users to read the clock in a 12-hour format, it now only appears in military time.

Swipe left to display the tiles on the watch to navigate (currently there are just three: heart rate, sleep metrics, and music controls). For notifications, swipe up, and for quick settings, swipe down. Real-time calling, text, and app notifications are received, and the watch’s big screen provides enough space to read email subject lines. You can access Alarms, Do Not Disturb, Find Phone, Screen Brightness, and Flashlight from the fast settings menu (which illuminates the screen white). At any time, swipe right to go back.

You can adjust the function/power key on the bottom button to rapidly launch the app of your choice (the Workout app is selected as the default). The top button opens the list of apps, which includes TV Connect, Settings, Find Phone, Activities, Workout, Workout Record, Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Sleep, Stress, and Breathing, as well as Phone, Music, and Weather.

The watch displays your daily step total, workout duration, calories burnt, and number of monitored sessions in the Activities app. You can begin monitoring a session in Workout. You may click into any of the monitored sessions in Workout Record to check the stats. It displays a list of all your tracked sessions. The Heart Rate app displays your heart rate at rest and while you are active, as well as a graph of your daily heart rate and a graph of how much time you have spent in each heart rate zone.

You can call one of your contacts, listen to your most recent calls, or utilize a dial pad in the Phone app. Just be aware that since the watch lacks a cellular radio, you cannot place calls without a phone nearby. I’ve successfully made and received phone calls via the watch during testing. The call sounds clear and loud enough, and the audio quality is good. You may transfer up to 30 contacts from your phone to the watch using the OnePlus Health app.

You can use the watch as a remote control for the OnePlus TV with the TV Connect app (I don’t have one, so I couldn’t test this feature). The Blood Oxygen, Sleep, Stress, Breathing, and Music apps will all be covered in more detail later; the rest of the apps should all be fairly self explanation.

As you can see from the list, the OnePlus Watch has a few helpful native apps, but it doesn’t accept third-party apps like the Apple Watch, Fitbit Versa, or Samsung Galaxy Watch. This implies that you only receive the apps on the list above.

Thank You !!
